This has been an on again off again project for us for some time now, we've started and restarted and then started again with this thing. It is definitely something we would like to (and will eventually complete). The next step is going to be yet again another total re-write. Previously written in flat PHP, we're going to speed the process up and standardize it by creating it inside a frame work (more than likely CakePHP).

The basic idea behind the game is an online graphical based, real time strategy game. It'll be a futuristic space conquest game and will have elements from games such as Master of the Orion, Sim City, and various other sim games.

The hardest (but coolest) part to this project is making something that's entirely real time, and entirely graphics based game which uses nothing but HTML an AJAX. We are tempted to move some of the battle systems into Flash to prevent cheating... but we're hoping we can work out a way which is secure and also trust our community to not do that kind of thing anyways!

Why so long?

This has been an on again off again project for the last 5 or 6 years. As we start developing we learn something new an want to implement it so end up starting again, and again... and again!

We are getting ever so close to knowing everything there is possible to know, so you may see something else happening with this project again soon. It is taking a back seat to other projects such as AllTracked and our un-named 'Card Game' though.

How will it work?

We've got grand plans for the game play with this, will basically feel like you're playing a PC game (albeit a poorly presented one) inside your web browser. We'll use little tricks to make things real time with other players, we'll also use graphics galore to keep it well presented and exciting while playing. There will be very little text or sliders used in this game!

We have had several semi working version in the past which have included some pretty cool functionality, if thats anything to go on it should be a great game if / when it ever gets completed!
